Dream role for Vivien

Hoppers Crossing actor Vivien Davies says performing in Billy Elliot the Musical is a dream come true.
The musical, which is being staged at the Regent Theatre until April 19, is based upon the popular Billy Elliot film.
Miss Davies portrays Billy’s grandmother in the show.
“This has been a dream of mine since I saw the movie,” Miss Davies said.
Miss Davies, 68, said she first auditioned for the role around 10 years ago, but was not cast at the time, as she was deemed “too young” for the part.
“I love her, she’s as mad as a cut snake,” Miss Davies said of her character.
Miss Davies said she had met Elton John, who wrote the songs for Billy Elliot the Musical, after he watched one of the Sydney performances.
“He talked to me after the show and I can’t remember what he said, I was as excited as a 12-year-old girl,” Miss Davies said.
In addition to having a host of musicals and theatre shows to her name, Miss Davis has been involved with children’s literacy programs through Wyndham’s libraries.
Miss Davies said she would return to the libraries later this year, after Billy Elliot closed.
“It’s just been such an absolute pleasure and I can’t wait to get back, I miss the kids,” she said.
