Charges after crash pushes car onto footpath, into park bench

Police are expected to charge a drink-driver who smashed into two parked cars in Werribee’s city centre last Saturday night.

Acting Sergeant Darin Sheahan, of the Wyndham highway patrol, said a 32-year-old Hoppers Crossing man was attempting a U-turn at the intersection of Watton Street and Station Place about 7pm when he allegedly lost control of his vehicle and careered into two parked cars.

The impact pushed one of the cars up onto the footpath and into a park bench.

The man left the scene but was arrested at home a short time later. He recorded a blood-alcohol reading of .166 – more than three times the legal limit.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident but the man’s Holden Astra sedan and the two parked cars were written off.

“It’s lucky there weren’t any people on the footpath,” Acting Sergeant Sheahan
said.

Police said the man would be charged on summons with drink-driving, careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
