Werribee will use the T20 twilight competition to showcase its next generation of stars.
The Tigers will play their first home match in the four-game, mid-week Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association west competition on Tuesday when arch-rival Williamstown comes to Chirnside Park.
Tigers captain Shaun Dean says the club will field an experimental side as in seasons past, one suited to the shortest form of the game.
“We try to use it for development,” he said of the competition.
“We pick guys in the seconds and thirds who we think have the potential to come up and play some higher cricket.
“It fast-tracks their development … if the sides we come up against play the majority of their first XI, it just shows guys what it takes to play at the higher level.”
Jack Budd is earmarked as a player with potential to reach the top grade.
The young allrounder is expected to thrive in the T20 series as he takes the first steps towards a first XI cap.
Of the T20 specialists, eyes will be glued on Matthew Palmer, one of the club’s biggest hitters.
Ryan Alifraco is the one to watch with the ball, his flat spinners able to tie down the most freewheeling of opposition batsmen.
The Tigers are hoping to attract an after-work crowd for their two home matches, which start at 5.15pm.
