Tower at the heart of Werribee playground

A park in the heart of Werribee is shaping up to be one of the best in the western suburbs with an 11-metre tower at its centre.
Wyndham family friendly portfolio holder Mia Shaw said the adventure play area of Wyndham Park, to the north of the Werribee River, was bound to be a hit with locals.
“We have a massive 11-metre play tower now installed, with a brilliant slide, climbing frame, swings, a flying fox and more,” Cr Shaw said.
“I know I’m definitely looking forward to taking my son Gus to the playground once it opens to have a bit of a play.”
Cr Shaw said the nature play area was also progressing well, encouraging children to play outdoors and embrace natural surroundings.
“This section of the park will feature a cubby house amongst the trees, climbing frames, a sandpit and a really fun waterplay section – a great maze of waterways where kids can control the flow of the water with switches, gates, and a water wheel,” she said.
“The public artwork will also be installed in the coming weeks.
“Named Ebb and Flow, the artwork reflects the history and natural environment of Wyndham Park by engaging with the backbone of our community – the Werribee River.”
Cr Shaw said the project was progressing well, and on track for an early 2020 completion date.
“The boardwalks around the park are currently being built, the toilet block has been installed, and the turf will be laid later this month,” she said.
“Once complete, this park will be home to all these features, as well as seating, a massive events lawn, rest areas, barbecues, shelter, new pathways, improvements to cycling access, viewing areas, improved lighting, and more trees and plants.”
The $13 million Wyndham City project has been supported with a state government grant of $3.2 million.
The park will remain closed to the public until early 2020 when works conclude.
