A slice of cake helps community

Werribee Lions Club members are entering into the festive spirit as they embark on a fundraising mission ahead of next year.
The Lions Club will be selling its traditional Christmas cakes and puddings in multiple locations across Wyndham, on each Saturday and Sunday next month in the lead-up to December 25.
The annual Lions Christmas Cakes sale is the organisation’s largest yearly fundraiser.
Proceeds raised during the sale go towards funding local community welfare projects.
Lions Clubs in Australia began selling Christmas cakes in 1965, and the sales of the cakes have raised more than $60 million since then.
Lions Australia chief executive Rob Oerlemans said many clubs would use the using this year’s Christmas Cake profits to support people impacted by bushfires.
“Lions Christmas Cakes have become a tradition in Australian households,” he said.
“This isn’t just because they are renowned for quality and taste but because when buying a Lions cake you know you are supporting a good cause and making a difference.”
The Lions Christmas Cakes are available in sizes of 1.5 kilograms ($17) and 1 kilogram ($13) sizes. The 900 gram puddings are $13.
The Werribee Lions Club will be selling cakes at the Manor Lakes Shopping Centre, the Watton Street Arcade (near Star Weekly), Bunnings Hoppers Crossing and Werribee stores.
Cakes can also be purchased from the Bendigo Bank, Gift Givers Gallery and Sesto Shoes in Watton Street, Werribee.
Cakes can also be purchased anytime by contacting the Lions Club at werribeelions@gmail.com, or see https://werribee.vic.lions.org.au/ for details.
