Witness appeal after fatal collision

By Alesha Capone

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Point Cook yesterday.

It is believed a man travelling with a three-year-old child had stopped in the emergency lane of the Princes Freeway, near Princes Highway, and appears to have been crossing the freeway when he was struck by a white Toyota Hilux ute just after 4.30pm.

The 54-year-old Werribee man died at the scene.

The child was uninjured during the incident.

Investigators wish to speak with the driver of a black Mercedes, who it is understood was also stopped in the emergency lane near the victim’s car, but left prior to police arriving.

The driver of the Toyota, a 31-year-old Carlton man, was not physically injured and is assisting police with their inquiries.

The exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined at this stage.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or with any dash cam footage is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
