Festival of fun returns

The volunteer-run Werribee Craft Festival will celebrate its 41st anniversary next month.

And it’s hoping any profits raised will boost the coffers of the Palliative Care Unit at Werribee Mercy Hospital to update a garden used by patients and families.

Since the festival was first held in 1978 it has donated funds to cancer support groups, Werribee Coast Guard, Manor Lakes Ambulance Victoria branch, Heathdale Community Centre, cat rescue group Purrs of Point Cook, the Country Women’s Association, Werribee RSL, dance groups and retirement villages.

Funds raised have also helped to buy sewing machines for a sewing program for refugees, run by the Wyndham Community and Education Centre.

This year’s festival will feature more than 90 stalls selling handmade craft including candles, Christmas crafts, educational toys, wooden goods and cards.

Traditionally held on the weekend after Melbourne Cup Day, for the first time, this year’s festival will open on the Friday night, November 8, from 6-9pm.

It will also be open on Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10 from 9am to 4pm at the Encore Events Centre in Hoppers Crossing.

Admission is free.
