VSDCA: Brunswick’s David McKay stuns Werribee Tigers

Werribee was left spellbound by bowler David McKay, the elder brother of Australian international all-rounder Clint.

Opening for Brunswick, McKay produced every trick in the book to take 6-54, with the Tigers all out for just 146 in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association match at Chirnside Park on Saturday.

Tigers captain Shaun Dean was one of the victims of McKay’s ferocious second spell when most of the damage was done.

“He only bowled three overs early and didn’t get any wickets, then he came back on,” Dean said.

“He’s a crafty bowler with a lot of different balls, a lot o

f slower balls – he rolls the fingers over the ball; he’s got an offie, a leggie, a quicker ball, so he’s always keeping you on your toes.”

The Tigers made a solid start on the back of openers Marcus Worrall (26) and Matt Dean (20).

But the entrance of McKay into the Wicks’ attack was bad news for the Tigers, the side collapsing to be 8-90.

Veteran all-rounder Heath Pritchard (30no) and young gun Tom Duxson (25) combined to put on 51 for the eighth wicket and give the bowlers something meaningful to defend.

The Tigers improved their chances late on day one to have the Wicks in trouble at 4-37. Pritchard snared all four wickets to finish with 4-9 from five overs.
