Wyndham Youth Fest: A celebration for our young

Wyndham council is putting on a show later this month to celebrate the contribution young people make to the community.

Hoppers Crossing’s Mossfiel Reserve will become a hive of activity on Friday, November 21, for the annual Youth Fest.

The family-friendly event will feature performances by local bands and DJs, sporting workshops, skate, scooter and BMX competitions and amusement rides.

There will also be face-painting, airbrush tattoo artists, inflatable slides, a reptile van and a barbecue.

Youth portfolio holder Cr Marie Brittan said the event was a great way to acknowledge the work of young people in the community and for Wyndham youth to celebrate the end of the school year.

“Wyndham has a younger than average population, the 2011 census indicating that more than 31,000 thousand residents are youth aged between 12 and 25 years, which represents 18 per cent of the total population. Future projections indicate this could reach 60,000 by 2031,” Cr Brittan said.

“There will be something for everyone at Youth Fest, for all ages … abilities and interest.”

“Wyndham’s young people make an invaluable contribution to our community, achieving amazing feats in study, sports, the arts and volunteer work.”

Youth Fest is open to young people aged 12-25. Free buses will run between Penrose, Point Cook and Wyndham Vale community centres and Mossfiel Reserve.

Register at youth.wyndham.vic.gov.au before November 19 to secure a place on the buses.
