New school head named

Paris Spencer is the first of three principals appointed to lead Wyndham’s newest schools next year.

Ms Spencer will be at the helm of Wyndham South (Riverwalk) Primary School, which is set to open for term one of 2020. Principals have yet to be named for Davis Creek Primary School and Point Cook South Senior Secondary School (both interim names).

Werribee MP Tim Pallas said Ms Spencer was a highly motivated and passionate educational leader who demonstrated a strong commitment to driving school improvement.

“Every student deserves access to the best facilities and the best teachers close to home, and the new school at Riverwalk will deliver exactly that,” he said.

He said Ms Spencer fostered a highly collaborative and inclusive school culture that was conducive to educational excellence.

Meanwhile, three decades after the name was seemingly consigned to history, the inner-west may once again have a Footscray High School.

The original Footscray High, rebadged as Footscray/Yarraville Secondary College in 1990, was closed in 1996.

Footscray High School has now been floated as the official umbrella name for the three high school campuses in the Footscray Learning Precinct. The school will be led by executive principal Frank Vetere, formerly principal at Point Cook P-9 College.
