Three young members of the 1st Werribee Scouts Group have headed overseas for the adventure of a lifetime.
Teenagers Ben Antonini, Hunter King and Paige Simpson spoke to Star Weekly last week before they departed for the 24th World Scout Jamboree, to be held in West Virginia until August 2.
The event aims to develop leadership and life skills in youths aged 14 to 17, through activities including BMX, rock climbing, zip lining, whitewater rafting, rock climbing and mountain biking.
Both Ben and Hunter will celebrate their birthdays during the World Scout Jamboree, turning 14 and 17 respectively.
“My birthday is going to be in summer for once,” Ben said.
The youngster also joked that he was looking forward to “leave and quiet [time]” from his family.
Hunter said the Jamboree would be “epic”, while Paige said all the fitness activities should have a good impact on her health.
“I might start craving vegetables … might,” she said. To pay for the trip they all took on after-school jobs and organised fundraising events. Before Paige, Hunter and Ben left for their trip, Lalor MP Joanne Ryan presented them with Australian flags to take.
“It was a thrill to meet with local Werribee Scouts who are embarking on an international adventure to the upcoming 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia,” Ms Ryan said.
