Dance Stars step up

Several Wyndham residents will take to the floor for a dance extravaganza to be held in Hoppers Crossing, which is aiming to raise $50,000 for a worthwhile cause.
Avalon Dance Stars on the Floor has paired Wyndham residents with top ballroom dancers, who are training them in routines to be performed on Friday, July 19 at the Encore Events Centre. One of the gala organisers, Heather Marcus, said the Wyndham “dance stars” would fundraise in the lead-up to the event, with all money they raised to go to the Mental Health Foundation Australia and efforts to prevent youth suicide, especially within the Wyndham area.

She said the dance star who raised the most money in the lead-up to the gala would receive a trophy, and that there would also be a trophy for the best dance star.Ms Marcus said that around 800 members of the public were expected to buy tickets to attend the gala event.

Community members dancing in the gala include GP Dr Joe Garra, Avalon Airport chief executive Justin Giddings, Werribee Mazda new car salesman Jamie Marasco, Bachelor of Biomedicine Arnav Shesham, Point Cook Senior Secondary College student Paris Luzaic, Point Cook P–9 College teacher Anne Mackelvie, Mackillop College communications and marketing manager Nicola Muller and Longfeng Su, who is retired.

Paris said that she had enjoyed rehearsing for the dance gala.

“I’m so excited, about everything for putting on the ballroom dresses to doing the routines,” she said.

One of the judges at the dance event will be Tristan MacManus, from Channel 10’s Dancing with the Stars program.

Avalon Dance Stars on the Floor will be held on Friday, July 19 at the Encore Events Centre in Hoppers Crossing, at 7pm. Ticket Prices: $20 to $30.
