A planning permit application to build a $4.8 million retail and food hub in Point Cook, including an ALDI supermarket, has been lodged with Wyndham council.
The application, from Leading Edge Property Group, proposes to build the hub on vacant land bordered by Hacketts Road, Dunnings Road and Steinway Street.
The application also includes a food and drink premises measuring 500 square metres; the sale of packaged liquor and 102 car parking spaces.
The ALDI supermarket would be about 186 square metres in size.
The proposed food and drink premises would be located in the northern part of the site, with a building comprising five tenancies and an outdoor dining area to the east.
The site of the proposed retail and food hub is located within the Point Cook West Precinct Structure Plan (PSP), which was prepared by the Growth Areas Authority (now the Victoria Planning Authority) to guide development of land located within the precinct.
The PSP earmarks the vacant land bordered by Hacketts Road, Dunnings Road and Steinway Street as a potential location for a convenience centre.
A traffic report prepared to accompany the application stated that traffic generated by the ALDI supermarket was anticipated to consist of about 109 vehicles during the morning peak period and about 218 in the afternoon peak period.
It was expected that traffic generated by the development “will be comfortably accommodated within the surrounding road network without causing any appreciable traffic impacts not unforeseen,” the report stated.
