Melton’s winter warmer

Beanies, blankets, scarves and jackets are being donated to warm Melton’s residents in need.

The community is being encouraged to gather everything from clothing to doonas for the Winter Woolies collection, which will run until the end of August.

Collection organiser Kirsteen Ryder, who is director of Professionals Ryder Real Estate Melton, said the idea for the initiative came to her “on a cold morning”.

“This is the first year that we’ve done a Winter Woolies collection,” Ms Ryder said. “I thought it would be a good idea because the weather is so cold and there are some people out there who are struggling and can’t afford these things.

“We want to make sure that more people in the community have access to warm clothing and blankets this winter.”

She said blankets, beanies, clothes, doonas, kids clothing and jackets would be welcomed.

“We’ll have the collection running for the whole of winter,” Ms Ryder said.

“Anyone who would like to receive a donation can drop into the office or message us on Facebook with a list of their needs and we will be happy to deliver to their home.”

Donations for the Winter Woolies initiative can be made to 321 High Street, Melton.
