Hoppers Crossing’s win keeps leading sides in sight

Hoppers Crossing led at every change to run out a 50-point winner over Caroline Springs in a hard-fought Western Region Football League game at Town Centre Oval on Saturday.

It was an important win for the Warriors, as it keeps them in touch with the top five going into the Queen’s Birthday break.

The Warriors had five multiple goalkickers – three to Brenton Payne and two each to Jackson Viola, Joel Bentley, Riley Kitchen and Jordan Cook.

Hoppers Crossing is sixth in the standings with a 4-3 record.

Werribee Districts showed Point Cook who is the boss of Wyndham with a 125-point derby win at Saltwater Reserve.

The Tigers set up their victory with a seven-goal-to-nil opening-term blitz.

Chris Molivas was on target for the Tigers with six goals, while Dillon Viojo-Rainbow continued his stellar form.

Werribee Districts is fourth with a 5-2 record after seven rounds.

In division 2, Wyndhamvale ran away with a 75-point win over West Footscray, with Joel Russell jagging five goals.

The Falcons remain two games clear on top with a 7-0 record.

Point Cook Centrals took care of Newport on the road, winning by 13 points.

Manor Lakes suffered its heaviest loss of the season, defeated by 92 points away to Parkside.

In division 3, Wyndham Suns copped an 88-point walloping from Sunshine Heights.

In the women’s competition, Werribee Centrals defeated Yarraville Seddon Eagles, 6.2 (38)-3.7 (25). Centrals sit seventh.

Second-placed Manor Lakes beat North Sunshine 25.14 (164)-0.0 (0).

Spotswood, Braybrook, Point Cook and Caroline Springs were the other winners.

There is no WRFL action this week, with a competition wide by for the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

In Geelong and District Football League top flight, Werribee Centrals powered to a 135-point victory over Corio.

Nathan Johnson was the star of the show for the Centurions with nine goals.
