Horse show

The Royal Melbourne Horse Show is at Werribee Park’s national equestrian centre from January 23-26. The event boasts more than 4400 entries over four days, showcasing some of the finest horses and ponies in the nation.

Hippo beach

Cool off at Werribee Open Range Zoo’s new hippo beach. Spot hippos snoozing on the bank and gliding through the water, then hit the beach or head to the water play area for a splash. Hippo beach is open daily until January 27. Entry to the zoo is $30.80 for adults, while children can visit for free during the school holidays.

Night of Indian music

Be mesmerised by soulful Indian music at a free event run by Sur Sanjh Australia, a newly established organisation bringing cultural events to the western suburbs. The Indian music night is January 24, at the Grange P-12 College, Callistemon Drive, Hoppers Crossing, from 6-10pm.

Country music

Join the king and queen of country music, Lee Kernaghan and Kasey Chambers, at Werribee Park on February 22 for Live on the Lawn. They will be joined by Adam

Brand, Morgan Evans and Melbourne’s own Deep Creek Road, bringing the best of Australia’s country music scene to Wyndham. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster and cost $84.50. It’s free for children under 12.

Australia Day

Celebrate Australia Day at a family-friendly event at Victoria University’s athletics t
rack, Hoppers Lanes, Werribee, from 5-10pm on January 26. There will be live music, carnival rides and face-painting, followed by a fireworks display at 9.15pm.

Wyndham sings

Join the Tides of Welcome Choir for a weekend of singing workshops with renowned choir director Jonathan Welch at Wyndham Cultural Centre from February 28-March 1. The workshops run from 10am both days, with a community concert to be held on March 1 from 3-4.15pm. Workshop tickets are $40, while concert tickets are $10.

Summer market

Pack a picnic and head to Synnot Street’s Kelly Park on February 14 for the Urban Markets, from 4-9pm. There will be live music, food and market stalls.
