Wyndham’s connection with China has been signed and sealed with a handshake.
Wyndham mayor Mia Shaw, cultural diversity portfolio holder Henry Barlow and deals, investment and major projects director Kate Roffey last week returned from China, where they finalised a Sister Cities agreement with Changzhou to develop economic, trade and cultural ties.
The delegation’s packed four-day trip included official meetings, signing the agreement and unveiling a memorial stone celebrating the Sister City relationship, and visits to Tianning Buddhist Pagoda and Qingguo Alley, the science and education town, Canal 5 Creativity Campus, the city planning hall and Changzhou Technical School of Tourism and Business.
Cr Shaw said the agreement would provide access to new opportunities and represents a milestone in Wyndham’s recognition as an international city.
“There are many benefits that both the Sister City and study tour visits will deliver to the people of Wyndham,” she said.
“Attracting visitors, growing economic investment and developing collaborative partnerships to deliver innovation based projects are critical.
“We’re committed to accelerating infrastructure investment rather than relying on government funding alone,” Cr Shaw said.
