Hospital fundraiser to make waves

A Werribee hair salon will hold a stylish fundraiser for the Werribee Mercy Hospital next week.

Curl Up’N Dye will host a Blow Wave & Style event on Tuesday night, as part of the Werribee Hospital Foundation’s Hospital Host program.

The program seeks to recruit people to run their own fundraisers for the hospital in the home, workplace or social group.

Curl Up’N Dye’s salon owner Rebecca Sinopoli said that she and her employees had decided to hold regular fundraisers for the hospital as part of the program – Tuesday night would be their first fundraising event.

Ms Sinopoli said that six of her staff, and a beauty therapist, have donated their time for the fundraiser. The salon’s third-year apprentice Natalya Gibson had also helped to organise theevent and to promote it on social media.

“We have a lot of clientele who work at the hospital and we’ve had families and friends use Werribee Mercy Hospital. We … wanted to do something for the hospital and the community,” Ms Sinopoli said.

People who book in for the Curl Up’N Dye fundraiser will get their hair blow-waved and styled for $45, with all proceeds going directly to the hospital. The salon will also run a raffle on the night, with tickets for sale at $20 each.

Ms Sinopoli said the salon’s suppliers, bodyography and Revlon Professional, had donated raffle prizes for the fundraiser.

Werribee Hospital Foundation’s community engagement and fundraising manager, Lisa Field, said that each year, the foundation – with the support of the Wyndham community – raised funds to meet the priority needs of the hospital.

“Last year for example, the Werribee Hospital Foundation donated $400,000 toward the new Intensive Care Unit, that was part of a significant expansion,” she said.

The Blow Wave & Style Fundraiser will start at 6.30pm on Tuesday, with spots between 7-9pm still available for bookings. Pop into Curl Up’N Dye at 1/36 Synnot Street, Werribee to make a booking or call 9741 5050.
