A Truganina mother has expressed concern about children being forced to walk dangerously close to, and across, a section of Sayers Road which has no footpath.
Bheema Anthru said families living in the College Green estate, whose children attend Al-Taqwa College and other nearby schools, were “facing real problem regarding safety of our kids crossing the road”.
She said children who walked along Sayers Road, along a 100-metre long strip of the road between the Westbourne Grammar School property and a bus stop, were being forced to walk through grass and a swale drain.
She said there was also no safe spot near this stretch of Sayers Road for children to safely cross, such as a pedestrian crossing.
“Sayers Road is heavy in traffic and there is every chance of getting hit by a vehicle anytime,” Ms Ahthru said.
“We are really concerned about safety of our kids and our fellow neighbours using that dangerous route.
“We want the (Wyndham) council not to wait until this happens and then do something – do something proactive to save lives.”
Ms Anthru said Wyndham council had not responded to her “repeated requests” for action, sent via email and through the council’s website.
Star Weekly contacted VicRoads and Wyndham council for comment, but did not receive a response.
