Assaults on Wyndham streets keep police busy

Seven men were arrested only minutes apart in a night of violence on Wyndham’s streets last week.

The first incident involved three men brandishing weapons, including an axe, meat cleaver and baseball bat, outside a Rouse Street house at Wyndham Vale.

Police were called just after 12.30am on February 4, but after finding the suspects had left the scene, they were led to a house off Tarneit Road, Tarneit, where they spotted a man removing number plates from a car as two men were getting out.

A search of the vehicle revealed an axe, meat cleaver and baseball bat, along with three sets of stolen number plates.

The three men were taken into custody and charged with weapons offences, theft and handling stolen goods.

About the same time, a car being driven erratically pulled out in front of police on patrol in Werribee.

After catching up with the driver, police were led to a nearby Cassowary Drive house where they discovered four men leaving in a vehicle after allegedly assaulting one of the occupants of the house.

Two guns were found in the vehicle and the four men were taken into custody and charged with offences including aggravated burglary, recklessly causing injury, intentionally causing injury, assault, criminal damage and firearm offences. The four men were remanded in custody to face court at a later date.
