A heritage expert has expressed dismay after vandals removed bluestones from the remains of a Truganina historic building.
Bill Strong, from the Wyndham Heritage Recovery Inc group, said he noticed bluestones missing from a wall of Missen House about two weeks ago.
Missen House, located on Dohertys Road, is listed as being of “local significance” in Wyndham council’s heritage overlay.
The site is known as Missen House in honour of William Missen, his wife and their seven children, a farming family who purchased the land in 1901 and built a home there four years later.
Mr Strong said that in addition to bluestones being taken from the property, other bluestones from the building had simply been knocked to the ground.
“We haven’t got much left in the way of history, so we have to protect what’s left,” he said.
Mr Strong said he would like to see Missen House restored, much like Davis House in Moorookyle Estate in Tarneit, where developers have incorporated the remnants of the building into a park.
Missen House is located on private land owned by developers who are proposing to build about 1400 dwellings nearby.
Wyndham city operations director Stephen Thorpe said the council had approached the developer “to discuss the installation of temporary fencing”.
