Tarneit pursuit

Police were forced to abandon a pursuit in Tarneit yesterday, after the car they were following ran a red light and drove on the wrong side of the road.

Police said they were called to a 7/11 store on Old Geelong Road in Hoppers Crossing, just after 1.45am, in relation to a group of men loitering in the area.

One of the men, who was described as a Caucasian male, was observed driving a white 2015 RV Toyota Sports Camry with false number plates, reading 1MN-1PV.

Police followed the vehicle as it left the 7/11 and attempted to intercept it on Shaws Road, Tarneit for a routine license check.

The driver refused to stop and engaged in what police described as “driving dangerously” on Tarneit Road.

Police said the driver also turned off the car’s lights and drove on the wrong side of the road.

Police followed the car as it travelled on Leakes Road, where the driver engaged in a “reckless display of driving” including running a red light, causing other motorists to take evasive action.

Police said they abandoned the pursuit after this, because of safety concerns.

The abandoned Toyota was later located on Leakes Road, Truganina.

Police have released CCTV images showing four men whom they hope to speak with in relation to the incident.
