Declan Parker, 19, was named the Wyndham Young Achiever of the Year for his dedicated service to the community.
He was chosen from among 12 young people who received a Mayoral Youth Award in 2017.
The university student is a CFA volunteer who has attended a number of fires and car accidents, earning himself the 2011 CFA Junior of the Year.
Declan, who at 15 became a full-time carer for his mother when she was injured in a car accident, also volunteers for the Cancer Council, the Royal Children’s Hospital and Red Nose Day.
Mayor Peter Maynard said Declan was one of the most inspiring people he’s ever met.
“When you consider that he is only 19 years old, it makes his achievements and dedication to making his community a better place even more impressive,” Cr Maynard said.
“I don’t know where Declan finds the time or energy to give so much back to his community, but we are definitely lucky to have him.”
