Advocacy group gets down to business

Companies are getting behind Wyndham’s newest advocacy group, which will promote business and tourism in the region.

The Wyndham Business and Tourism Association hosted its first annual meeting last Wednesday, voting in foundation member and Park Hotel co-owner Nick Christou as president.

Mr Christou says the association will run three sub-committees – advocacy, events and promotions, and membership services – to advocate for change on relevant issues and create a calendar of events to entice locals and tourists to spend time in Wyndham

Further sub-committees will be created as issues and concerns are identified.

Mr Christou urged Wyndham business owners to actively participate and have a say in shaping Wyndham’s future.

“We’re local businesspeople representing local businesses at a local level,” he said.

“People are time-poor and, with two associations, there’s a lot of duplication.

“We want to grow Wyndham and represent business – whether it’s from an advocacy point of view and addressing things like car parking, or addressing things like graffiti, streetscapes and public transport.

“From an events and tourism point of view, we want to put Wyndham on the map,” he said.

“There’s already some very good work that’s being done at the moment and some very well-respected local businesspeople are involved at board level and as members.”

The Wyndham Business and Tourism Association is kicking off with a membership drive to get more businesses on board.
