Fashionable frocks, floor-length evening gowns and other designs will hit the runway later this year for the 21st annual Fashion Awards Australia.

Awards director Heather Marcus said that the annual event – in which budding designers from around the nation and design students from TAFEs, secondary colleges and tertiary campuses display their works in a range of categories – would be held at Encore Events Centre in Hoppers Crossing on Friday, October 12.

The awards will host the Australian Gown of the Year award for the second year running.

Ms Marcus said many school students had been working on their designs since the beginning of this year.

Designer Sia Zacharis won both Australian Gown of the Year and Australian Designer of the Year in last year’s awards, wowing judges with a floor-length gown with a thigh-high split and one-shoulder detail.

In the secondary school category, Anh Hoang, from St Albans Secondary College, won three awards – best long gown, young designer of the year and most outstanding garment. She also came second in chic day wear.

Entries close on Wednesday, September 12, for TAFE and adult designers and on Friday, September 21, for secondary school entries.
