Play space overhaul

Fun and games are ace when you’re a kid – just ask Aiden, left, and Audrey.

Wyndham council is planning to increase the ace factor of the municipality’s play spaces, including parks and playgrounds, under a plan to make them more inclusive and accessible.

The council has audited its 270 existing play spaces and discovered that more needs to be done to make play spaces accessible to the wider Wyndham community, including children with disabilities.

Wyndham family friendly city portfolio holder Mia Shaw said the council’s draft play space strategy was aimed at bringing those play spaces up to scratch.

“[The audit] found that the standard of equipment in play spaces varies significantly throughout Wyndham,” Cr Shaw said. “In some cases, the quality of infrastructure is very high, while in other areas the equipment and amenity could be improved.”

The draft strategy is open for community consultation until July 22.
