Tegan is taking care of business

Taking the plunge and starting your own business is scary stuff – just ask Tegan Ang, who sat on her dream of starting up a copywriting business for more than two years before giving it a go.

Ms Ang (pictured) said throughout her former career in education and office management, she had always been the go-to person for writing and proofreading. It was this natural talent that prompted her to start up Writing Your Story in July 2016, which offers blog posts, website copy, email marketing and editing and proofreading services.

She made a concerted effort to network in the early days of the business and the hard work paid off, with Ms Ang quickly amassing a strong portfolio of clients, ranging from real estate agents to public relations professionals.

“I’ve come into quite a few clients that have basically filled me up in terms of capacity and availability, so I am not actually taking on too many new clients at the moment, and I’ve just employed a casual that I’ve been mentoring …[to] grow the business a bit more,” she said.

This year, Ms Ang has nominated Writing Your Story for the home-based category of the Wyndham Business Awards, of which Star Weekly is a media partner.

Entries and nominations are open until June 8, with categories for home-based; logistics; manufacturing; new and emerging; personal services; professional services; trade and construction; people’s choice; arts; experience and hospitality; business person of the year and young business person of the year; mayoral award and the prestigious business of the year.
