Dust off that suitcase and reach for the passport, because flying to Asia has just become a whole lot easier – thanks to Avalon Airport and AirAsia.
AirAsia is moving its Melbourne operations to Avalon Airport, with flights beginning from the end of this year.
In a massive launch at Avalon, AirAsia announced that daily direct flights to Kuala Lumpur from Avalon would provide access to an enormous number of exciting connections.
In fact, AirAsia flies to more than 130 stunning destinations.
AirAsia’s motto – “Now Everyone Can Fly” – is indicative of the fares it offers. Its low-cost, comfortable flights mean travellers spend less on travel and more on goodies once they’ve reached their destinations.
The partnership with Avalon Airport means international travel will be more affordable for Melburnians – in particular residents of Werribee and surrounds – according to airport chief executive Justin Giddings.
“Low-cost flights combined with an easy airport experience make for the perfect partnership,” he says. “We’re extremely pleased to welcome AirAsia on board.”
Well known for its ease of experience, the airport has parking right outside the terminal – or SkyBus comes direct from Werribee.
An easily accessible one-level airport, Avalon has a comfortable departure lounge with free wifi, a multitude of mobile device-charging points, a cafe, bar and newsagent – all right by the gate.
Two flights a day will leave for Kuala Lumpur from Avalon Airport, mid-morning and mid-evening.
AirAsia X Airbus A330s will fly the long haul between Avalon Airport and KL. From there, passengers can catch AirAsia connections to destinations right around Asia. AirAsia X Airbus A330s are fitted with Standard, Quiet Zone and Premium Flatbed choices allowing passengers to opt for saving a bundle or a little more in-flight comfort.
The launch was attended by Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop, AirAsia Group chief executive and AirAsia X Co-Group chief executive Tony Fernandes, Linfox founder Lindsay Fox, Linfox Airports executive chairman David Fox, AirAsia X Malaysia chief executive Benyamin Ismail, Industry and Employment Minister Ben Carroll, Avalon Airport chief executive Justin Giddings, with local TV personality Catriona Rowntree as master of ceremonies.
