They’re a staple of many a family’s Christmas celebrations – and now locals will be able to get their hands on Christmas fruit cakes and puddings and help the community.

The Werribee Lions Club will be selling cakes and puddings each weekend in the lead-up to Christmas at stalls at Pacific Werribee, Bunnings Hoppers Crossing, Bunnings Werribee and Tarneit Shopping Centre.

Vice president Eamonn Cooke said the club was expecting to sell about 1100 cakes over the festive season, with proceeds to go towards community groups and locals in need.

Mr Cooke said that in previous years the Lions had used the money raised to pay for guide dogs for people with visual impairments and aids for children with disabilities.

“Our cakes are quite delicious and are also good for about two years – they’ve got a pretty long life span,” he said.
