Girl fights for life after Wyndham Vale crash

By Joe Hinchliffe

A 10-year-old girl is fighting for her life and three of her family members, including a five-year-old boy, have been hospitalised after a tip truck crashed into their car in Wyndham Vale last night.

Police say the family of four were in a right-turn lane on Ballan Road near the intersection at Welcome Parade when the crash occurred at 9.20pm on Monday night.

The family’s Mitsubishi Outlander was stationary when the tip truck and trailer crashed into the rear of their vehicle.

The driver of the Volvo truck, a 51-year-old Kurunjang man, stopped at the crash scene and was assisting police with their enquiries.

The 10-year-old girl received serious head, chest and pelvis injuries. She was treated by paramedics and taken to Royal Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.

The five-year-old boy was also taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition after receiving chest and leg injuries.

A man aged in his 40s had head, arm and leg injuries and was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.

A woman in her 30s had shoulder and abdominal injuries and was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.
