Mini-city plan for Tarneit

Plans have been lodged for a $130 million mini-city in the heart of Tarneit.

Dubbed Tarneit Junction, artists’ impressions for the proposed development show a tiered multi-storey hotel up to 14 storeys high and serviced apartments spread out across six apartment blocks on the corner of Leakes and Derrimut roads.

In total, the proposed development includes a 174-room hotel, 286 apartments and townhouses – including a number of private terraced apartments – and 515 carparks. There is also a block dedicated to a 248-room aged care facility, allied and specialist medical services, a day procedure centre and spa.

Food courts, cafes, bakeries, a bistro and bar, function and meeting rooms, office space and a gym are spread throughout the proposal.

The man behind the project, Sunil Kumar, did not respond to requests for further information.

Mr Kumar has previously told Star Weekly his vision was to create a “five-minute city” in Tarneit.

“Everything will be within walking distance,” he said. “We will offer affordable housing in one or two-bedroom apartments and townhouses, with health facilities and restaurants.”

The proposal drew ire last year when Mr Kumar marketed it as Indian Junction. It was later re-branded Tarneit Junction.

Tarneit Junction is one of several multi-million projects set to change the shape of Werribee’s skyline.

A permit has been lodged for a $49.5 million high-rise hotel, education precinct and carpark at a site on the corner of Synnot Street and Duncans Road in Werribee. It is one of four ground-level carparks owned by Wyndham council that will be converted to high-rise complexes in coming years in a bid to rejuvenate the heart of Werribee.
