Little River with big art

The third annual Little River Art Show promises to deliver some beautiful works – including those from Marian D’Rosario.

Ms D’Rosario, who is also the exhibition’s curator, said the event was a great way to showcase the talent of artists while raising money for a good cause.

The show helps the Little River Mechanics Institute and Free Library Inc, which is housed in the historic Little River Mechanics Hall.

The exhibition will be held in the hall, which was built in 1910.

Ms D’Rosario said the art show would include works by artists from Wyndham, Lara and Geelong.

“This is our third year and we have roughly 30 artists and 100 pieces of art,” she said.

Ms D’Rosario said her own artworks included painting in pastel; pottery; and pressed flowers.

“I think it takes me into a totally different space, where I’m relaxed and my personality comes out,” she said of her art practices.

Ms D’Rosario said she took photos during her travels – to places such as the Galapagos and the Amazon River – and then painted the animals and landscapes she had captured.

Ms D’Rosario said she sometimes found it difficult to sell some of her pieces, as there was “a little piece of me” in each of them.

This year’s Little River Art Show is sponsored by Burns Archer Realty, Argo Print and Design and the Little River Hotel.

The exhibition will be held on Saturday, November 18, from 10am-4pm and Sunday, November 19, from 10am-2.30pm. Entry by gold coin donation.
