Daughters on the rise

By Dewi Sherry

Wyndham’s female footy fanatics will have the chance to take part in a new program aimed to kickstart healthy lifestyles.

Daughters of the West is a free health program for women aged 18 and over. The eight-week pilot program, starting in October, aims to give women the tools to begin living a healthy life.

Daughters of the West participant and Hoppers Crossing resident Linda Scorsis said she was excited to be one of the first people to benefit from the pilot program.

“I can’t wait to meet all the other people who will be taking part and see how we can help each other to become stronger and healthier women,” Ms Scorsis said.

“It’s great to see the rise of women’s footy, with people like Daisy Pearce being seen as legitimate footballers and becoming inspiring figures for future generations. The fact that we now have Daughters of the West to help us improve our physical and mental health too is another great step forward.”

“I’m also a one-eyed Doggies fan, so the fact that I’ll get to be working with people from the Western Bulldogs is definitely exciting too.”

The program is being run in partnership with the Western Bulldogs and Wyndham, Maribyrnong, Brimbank and Ballarat councils.
