Train stations need a makeover

Werribee and Hoppers Crossing train stations need to be brought up to an “acceptable” standard, according to Wyndham councillor Mia Shaw.

“Both stations look and feel very tired and neglected, in particular the underpass at the Werribee station,” she said.

“I would like to see Werribee and Hoppers Crossing train stations brought up to a standard that is acceptable to its users and this city.”

Cr Shaw said the council would contact the state government about the issue, after receiving feedback from commuters.

She said litter removal at the stations and a need for more vendors were among issues raised by train users.

A height disparity between platforms and train carriages, and weeds growing out of the gutters at Werribee station also needed to be addressed.

“There are other poor conditions and designs of both stations that mean the access and exit points choke during busy times,” Cr Shaw said.

She said although Cherry Street level crossing removal was scheduled for between 2018 and 2022, Werribee and Hoppers Crossing stations both needed improving now.

She said the council had also asked the Minister for Public Transport for an upgrade to the unsealed section of Aircraft station’s carpark and for the removal of the Hoppers Crossing level crossing on Old Geelong Road.

A Public Transport Victoria (PTV) spokesman said: “PTV is looking at stations across the network to identify and prioritise where infrastructure improvements are required and this useful feedback about customer experiences at Werribee Station will feed into that process.”
