Young science competition winner

Thirteen-year-old Himani was one of several winners at the Young Scientist of Wyndham competition.

The competition, which was held at Featherbrook P-9 College in Point Cook earlier this month, was open to Wyndham students aged between 10 to 18.

Sixteen youngsters took part in the event, which encouraged entrants to devise a project that would make a better future for Wyndham and make them feel like they can make a difference to their local community.

Himani won the 13 to 18-year-old section and took home a trophy and a tablet among other prizes.

A pair of entrants, Jaswant and Tapovardhan, won the 10 to 12-years-old section.

Competition founder Vijisha Venkatram, a Tarneit resident, said she was passionate about helping young people to learn about science. The contest was sponsored by Wyndham council and businesses, and the student’s work was showcased as part of Wyndham’s Learning Festival Week from September 1 to 8.
