Find out what your property is really worth to avoid under-insuring

According to LJ Hooker Point Cook principal Silvana Masalkovski, most home owners in Wyndham are unaware of how much capital growth their property has accrued over the past few years. This puts them at risk of being under insured.

“Home owners,” she says, “rarely have an accurate understanding of how much their home is worth. Estimates suggest that up to 40 per cent of Point Cook residents with home insurance are under-insured.

“Every day, people go online to check their share portfolio, savings or credit card balances, but they don’t have any idea of the worth of their home which, for many of us, is our biggest asset.

“People normally don’t get a market update until they’re looking to sell, without realising a market update can reveal the correct insurance coverage.

“Researching median prices in your suburb is a good guide, but for owners to really know how much to insure their home for, they need a market update from a real estate professional.’’

Ms Masalkovski says a market update is free, easily organised and can be used to avoid the risk of being under-insured. LJ Hooker is encouraging people to make sure their home is correctly insured by offering more than $100,000 in prizes.

From September 1 to November 30, home owners who have a market update with LJ Hooker will not only have the correct value of their property for insurance purposes but will have the chance to win.

Each day of spring, one owner who has a market update with LJ Hooker will be chosen at random to win $1000 cash.

“We want to help Point Cook residents protect their home, and we’d love to see some of the cash prizes go to locals”. Ms Masalkovski says.
