Brawl at Werribee shopping centre

A 15-year-old Werribee boy has been charged after an alleged brawl, involving about 16 people, at the Pacific Werribee shopping centre on Monday.

The teen was arrested by members of the Werribee Youth Tasking police on patrol at the centre on Wednesday.

He was charged with affray, intentionally causing injury, two counts of unlawful assault and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

There were also four outstanding warrants for the youth.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before court at a later date.

Senior Constable Madeline Gillard said the alleged brawl occurred near an entrance to the shopping centre’s Urban Diner section.

She said a 17-year-old sustained a broken nose after the alleged brawl, while three other people suffered bruising and abrasions.

Senior Constable Gillard encouraged anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour, or who was the target of aggressive behaviour, at any of Wyndham’s shopping centres to alert security guards or call triple-0.

She said police were conducting patrols at Pacific Werribee, focused on anti-social behaviour.
