Science comp for youth

Do you know a school student who is a star when to comes to science, or a youngster who is terrific with technology?

The Young Scientist of Wyndham competition is now open for applications.

The event, to be held at Point Cook’s Featherbrook P-9 College on September 2, is open to youths aged 10 to 18 who attend a school in Wyndham.

Competition founder Vijisha Venkatram, from Tarneit, said she was passionate about helping young people to learn about science. Inspired by a Wyndham council leadership program she attended, she decided holding a science competition for young people would be a positive thing for the community.

The Young Scientist of Wyndham contest is sponsored by Wyndham council and local businesses and will form part of Wyndham’s Learning Festival Week from September 1 to 8.

Young people are invited to devise a project themed around making a better future for Wyndham, and describe it in a three-minute video.

Applications close on August 15.

Twenty-five finalists will then display their model or presentation to a panel of judges on September 2.
