Wyndham residents of all age groups have lined up to shave their hair in support of the Leukaemia Foundation.
Tony Fracassi, a resident at Mercy Place Wyndham, lost his wife to brain cancer in 1991. The past few years he’s shaved his hair in support of the Leukaemia Foundation.
“It’s my way to make a difference,” he said.
When Susan Sales and Michelle Bright, both staff members at the home, saw what Tony was doing, they decided to jump on board and shave their locks too.
“My friend from school died from brain cancer,” Susan said.
“When she was going through chemotherapy I told her I’d shave my head too.
“Unfortunately, she passed away before I did so now I’m shaving my hair.”
Though Michelle has had no personal connection to cancer, she decided to take to the clippers in support of her friends.
Together, Tony, Michelle and Susan have raised almost $2000.
Meanwhile, a Point Cook College crazy hair day fundraiser collected $1137 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Year eight student Jazmiin Dezereux braved the clippers during school recess on Wednesday, opting for a new short back and sides look.
She has donated her hair to children’s charity Variety, who will use it to make wigs.
“This year, I really wanted to get out there and help people around me, and I felt this was a great opportunity,” Jazmiin said.
“It was exciting and nerve-wracking, but definitely worth it.”
Year nine student Callum Buckingham also got in on the action, shaving his hair off at Eagle Stadium on Saturday.
