The Holi Festival of Colours, a traditional Indian harvest celebration, will return to Wyndham this weekend.
Festival secretary Hari Yellina says the annual Hindu celebration symbolises the victory of good over evil and draws on an Indian legend of love.
“However, in modern days, Holi has mostly been seen by many people as a get-together for friends and families,” he said. “To have and enjoy quality time together without any concern of ethnicity.
“Some groups take the festival very serious and they celebrate it for many days after the actual date.”
The Wyndham event, to be held at Werribee racecourse, will feature a range of activities and stalls.
“Whether you like jewellery, traditional dresses or henna tattoos, all will be available at this festival,” Mr Yellina said.
“If you are either a novice or seasoned Indian food eater, everything is well taken care of.”
He expects more than 15,000 people to attend the festival.
The Holi Festival of Colours will be held on Saturday, March 11, from 11am until 8pm.
