Werribee just keeps reeling in the wins in Baseball Victoria’s summer league division 2.
The Giants have toted up nine wins in a row, and there seems to be no stopping them.
What’s more, their run of wins has been achieved in offensive style. Two wins over the past week came when they blasted 10 runs each game, all the while maintaining high standards defensively.
Werribee had a 10-1 win over Berwick mid-week at Melbourne Ballpark, then followed up with a 10-3 win over Williamstown in the western derby at President’s Park on Saturday.
These wins allowed the ladder-leading Giants to open up a handy two-and-a-half game break over second-placed Sunshine.
With promotion to division 1 guaranteed for the minor premiers, there is a massive incentive for the Giants to preserve their spot at the top of the ladder.
Werribee will play its last game before the Christmas break against Malvern at President’s Park on Sunday.
In the women’s division 2, Werribee was on the receiving end of a 21-3 lesson from Footscray.
The Giants are in last place on the ladder, with just one win from 11 difficult games.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Aces are two games clear on top of the Australian Baseball League ladder.
The Aces played a four-game series against Canberra Cavalry at Melbourne Ballpark over the weekend, winning the Friday night game and both games in the Saturday double-header, before losing the Sunday game.
The Aces will play a blockbuster four-game series against the second-placed Sydney Blue Sox at Melbourne Ballpark, starting on Friday night.
