Enrolments fly in for Featherbrook College

This is your first look at the new Featherbrook P-9 College.

Construction on Point Cook’s newest school is on track to be completed in December, which will feature an orange, yellow and grey colour scheme throughout.

Located along Boardwalk Boulevard, Featherbrook will open its gates to prep to grade 6 students on the first day of term one next year. Years 7, 8, and 9 will be rolled out in subsequent years.

Students will use iPads and Macbooks as part of their learning, and Japanese has been selected as the school’s LOTE language.

Principal Kerry Clayton said more than 125 students have enrolled so far to start school at Featherbrook next year, including at least 84 preps.

Assistant principal Dale Brown and an interim school council are already in place, and Ms Clayton is currently recruiting teachers.

Ms Clayton has spent the past two decades with the Education Department, including seven years as principal of Malvern Central School and four years heading up Waverley Meadows Primary School.

“It’s such a privilege and I have such a sense of awe that we have these beautiful spaces,” she said. “The children are going to flourish here.

“We’re catering for how children learn – not stuck in boxes, sitting at a desk all day.”

The school, which was originally named Point Cook South P-9 College, has been renamed Featherbrook in line with the neighbouring community centre, kindergarten and sports oval bearing the same name.
