September 22, 1976

Werribee Shire Council is pressing the State Government for early implementation of the Statcon traffic control system for the municipality. However, the reply from Government sources is that Werribee may proceed with the system under a deferred payment scheme in which council bears the cost and the Government reimburses at a later date.

 

30 years ago

September 24, 1986

Construction of the $6.2 million Forsyth Road overpass project in Hoppers Crossing will continue on schedule following a government grant of $200,000 Werribee MLA Ken Coghill announced last week. The money, which has been allocated from the Australian Bicentennial Road Development Project (ABRDP), was needed to ensure the works continue on their original timetable.

No, Rob Maclellan is not entering a funny face competition. He had just been soaked by an unexpected cold shower last Thursday. The Minister for Planning and Local Government grimaced after being doused by a quick burst of water from a sprinkler system at the Hoppers Kindercare. The system was turned on to douse a fire sparked during a safety drill.

Heathdale Christian College has rallied to help the family of a teacher and school captain whose Werribee house was gutted by fire. Last Friday, just a day after the blaze which caused up to $300,000 damage, the school community and Werribee Baptist Church raised more than $10,000 for the Seedhorn family. They also provided the family with goods and temporary accommodation.
