Two soccer games stand between Point Cook and promotion.
The Jets are looking forward to the promotion play-offs after sealing second spot in the FFV men’s state league 4 west soccer on Saturday.
The Craig Filer-coached side needed to claim all three points to keep hold of second and did so in emphatic fashion with a 4-0 drubbing of Spring Hills at Saltwater Reserve.
Matthew Lawtey continued his goal-scoring touch with a double for the Jets to make it 10 goals in his past 10 matches, while Harry Reading and Morgan Filer also found the back of the net.
Point Cook will face FC Strathmore – the second-placed team in the north group – in the promotion play-off semi-final. The winner will advance to meet the Western Eagles, who finished third-last in state league 3 north-west, in the final a week later.
Truganina Hornets had a superb finish to the season, beating Newmarket Phoenix 3-1 on the road at Debneys Park. The Hornets finished an inconsistent season in ninth.
In state league 2 north-west, Hoppers Crossing ended the season on a high note with a 3-1 win over Essendon United at Grange Reserve. John Little, Liam McDermott and Daniel Sweeney were the Reds’ goal scorers.
The Reds finished their first season up in the state league second tier in an impressive fourth spot.
Meanwhile, Werribee City will hold its annual awards night at the Italian Sports Club of Werribee this Saturday night.
