Werribee: High life is hot property on Watton Street

Ever wanted to live in the Werribee CBD, within walking distance of shops, restaurants and public transport?

Well, now there’s a chance. Construction has started on the first high-end apartments in the downtown, giving residents a rare opportunity to live on Watton Street.

The five-storey development by local company Madok Group is at 116 Watton Street and the first of its kind in the Werribee CBD.

Madok Group’s development manager Scott Clouston said the development will include 11 retail spaces on the ground floor and 26 two- and three-bedroom apartments, 13 of which will face the river.

Madok Group bought the site in October 2010 and, after some initial planning and power delays, started foundation works on the site last week. Construction is expected to finish by June next year.

The apartments are the vision of Madok Group managing director Mitch Knight, who said the development would be “iconic”.

“It is putting Werribee on the map. Who would have thought we would have high-end apartments on Watton Street?” he said.

Interest in the apartments is high, with many already sold. Mr Clouston said a lot of the interest is coming from locals who are keen to live in the heart of town.

He said the development would be one of the biggest investments in the Werribee CBD, offering highly sought-after retail spaces as well as apartments.

“It will be the biggest building on Watton Street,” Mr Clouston said. “It will change perception of Werribee.”

Apartments sell for about $390,000. Details: Rob Westwood, Westwood First National: 0439 487 818 or Burgess Rawson: 0413 860 316.
