A Wodonga family got more than they bargained for on a recent day out at Werribee Open Range Zoo.
The family, who visited the zoo for the first time on May 16, were the 500,000th visitors for the 2014-15 financial year.
It’s the most visitors in one year in the zoo’s 32-year history.
Director Sally Lewis presented the family with a zoo membership and they also got to meet keepers and deliver some special treats to the animals.
Ms Lewis said the new record marked an important milestone for the zoo.
“Every visit to the zoo helps us in the fight against wildlife extinction and so this increase in visitation is critical to the work we are doing to save threatened species,” she said.
But the Wodonga winners weren’t the only ones having fun at the zoo this week, with two-year-old Vera also getting in on the action.
