More than 1000 people have already put their hand up for a job at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee – even though the hospital won’t open for another year.
St Vincent’s Private Melbourne chief executive Ian Grisold said the organisation had received “significant interest” from job seekers, in particular people keen to work closer to home.
Healthcare professionals from as far as London and New York have also shown interest in relocating for one of the 350 full-time positions, with many nurses in particular keen to work at the Werribee hospital.
Construction of the $95 million development – on a four-hectare site at Hoppers Lane, close to both the Werribee Mercy Hospital and Wyndham Private Medical Centre – started last November.
The hospital will have 112 beds, six operating theatres, four delivery suites, five cots in its special-care nursery, a cardiac catheter laboratory, a day procedure unit, day oncology, rehabilitation facilities, consulting suites, and radiology and pathology departments.
An 80-bed aged-care facility will provide for respite-care needs, residents who are financially disadvantaged and those suffering dementia.
Mr Grisold said the recruitment process for most positions would begin in January and February next year.
“We’ve been thrilled and humbled at the interest the local community has shown towards St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee, which is on track to open in mid-2017,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to providing greater access to healthcare choices in Melbourne’s west.”
To date, all seven of the hospital ground floor slabs have been poured and formwork has started on level two, on the theatre side of the hospital.
The entire construction is expected to be completed by August 2017.
Mr Grisold said the development included extra land for future expansion.
