May 21, 1975


Relief seems ahead, at last, for people owning blocks of land supposedly prone to a degree of flooding, with the state government, the Board of Works and State River officials giving to council the green light to issue permits for housing outside of limits of known flood levels.

May 22, 1985

Contaminated water from the Builders Transport fire is being pumped through the sewer system to the Board of Works farm at Werribee. Up to three million litres of the water used to fight the fire will be disposed of at the farm. The water is being stored in concrete tanks and biologically degraded.

May 17, 1995

Wyndham council has called for an urgent report on safety aspects of Heaths Road, Hoppers Crossing, in the Werribee Plaza area. The stretch has become notorious in recent years for accidents involving pedestrians, including two residents of the Glendale Hostel for the Aged.

Wyndham council has “blood on its hands” and will be held responsible by residents for any more deaths along several dangerous stretches of road, says an angry Tarneit resident. Derrimut Road residents, fed up with the road carnage at their front doorsteps, rallied against the council last week following the funeral of a motorcyclist.
