NPL: Werribee City gets its mojo back after poor start

Werribee City is building up a head of steam in soccer’s National Premier league Victoria competition.

After 11 winless games to start the season, the Bees have notched consecutive wins in the past fortnight.

They moved out of the relegation zone and up to 11th thanks to Saturday’s 2-0 win over cellar dwellers North Geelong Warriors at Elcho Park.

First-half goals to Simon Zappia and Steven Cudrig were enough to see the Bees bank three valuable points.

They will fancy their chances on a Saturday night road trip when they face second-last Dandenong Thunder at George Andrews Reserve.

In state league 3 north-west, Tom Orndahl found the back of the net but his Hoppers Crossing side was sunk 2-1 by La Trobe University. The Reds have dropped to fourth on the table after two sides leaped over them with victories at the weekend.

In state league 4 west, Point Cook has taken command of the division after a 3-0 thrashing of Altona North away at Duane Reserve.

Truganina Hornets disappointingly went down 2-1 to bottom-of-the-ladder Laverton Park.

The Hornets’ season has been plagued with inconsistent form and it shows in their mid-table ladder position.
