Tigers ‘huddle’ for Werribee young people

A sport and education program aimed at engaging young people from diverse backgrounds in sport and learning is making its way to Werribee.

North Melbourne Football Club, the Scanlon Foundation and the Refuge of Hope are planning to bring their ‘Huddle’ program to Werribee as part of the planned redevelopment of Chirnside Park.

The Werribee Huddle, a community involvement project, will be based on the group’s ‘huddle’ at Arden Street.

Werribee Football Club (the Tigers) believes the program will improve social cohesion in the Werribee area. It’s aimed at developing young leaders and active residents through technology, sport, team building and mentoring.

The huddle was set up at North Melbourne Football Club in 2009. Since then, it has helped to address the causes of disengagement among young people.

North Melbourne Football Club community engagement general manager Sonja Hood said the club was excited to work with the Werribee Tigers to bring a huddle to Chirnside Park.

“The huddle has been a huge success in North Melbourne and we now have hundreds of young people studying, playing sport and volunteering with us every week,” she said.

The Werribee Huddle will be funded through government, philanthropic and corporate donations.
